Mardi Gras RAK

Okay, it's almost Mardi Gras, "Fat Tuesday" as it is sometimes known. Well we are busy here flinging stuff. That means trying to get rid of some of the excess. For Lent this year, I am going to try to give some meaningful things away to people who can use them. Who better to start with then my scrappy friends? If you leave a comment on my blog today Sunday the 22nd through 7 pm PST on Thursday the 26th, I will enter your name in a drawing for a RAK, featuring Mardi Gras Colors! Yellow, Purple and Green. The photo below gives you a hint of what will be in this RAK! Good luck!

Flashback Reunion Cropin' the Night Away!

I am having an awesome time at the Serendipity Scrapbooks crop. I have gotten these LO done and have four more in the wings for tomorrow. I also almost have finished a mini for Maura at Craft Sassy using papers from Jeff at BWScrapbooking.com.

We are having quite the weekend. Preston celebrated his first Reconciliation today. So that was a really big thing. When he was done, he said it was fun. He also liked Father because he had tennis shoes on! Ah, the mind of an 8 year old.

Flashback Reunion Crop Countdown!

Serendipity Scrapbooks is celebrating their third birthday with a Flashback Reunion Crop that starts on Friday! I hope that you can all make it over and hang out this weekend.
Two precrop challenges have been posted.
The first is to use your retro paper and make some cards - I *know* that most of you have retro paper.... Don't hold out on me. Here's what I found. I must say it represents only a small portion of my retro stash.

The second challenge is to make some pre-crop jewelry and accessories. Tonight I made a pin and if I have time tomorrow I will make some paper beads for additional items.

I hope that you all can make it to this on-line crop. There will be some awesome RAKS and to let you in on a secret, there will be some fabulous sales on great "non-retro" scrappy stuff.

Valentines - past, present and future

I have been doing a lot of self-examination in the past weeks. Father Armando Lopez at Ascension Parish gave a wonderful homily on experiences that open our heart. He spoke of difficult times that leave us angry because our prayers have not been answered. I can think of many instances in my life that have not worked out in the way I would have liked, especially in the past few years with the loss of my dad and illnesses.

In the last week, I have come to terms with the fact that I was holding on to these hurts and not being fully open to the love and happiness that is and should be in my life. Last Sunday, I had a reconciliation experience and my attitude has really changed and I feel happy inside.

So what does this have to do with Valentines? I have had so many good and honorable, imperfect people in my life. I am using my scrapbooking to tell their stories from my perspective. The layout above is of my mom's dad, Clifford Hall. He was one of my favorite people in the world. Grandpa Cliff was a firefighter for 42 years on the Everett (Washington) Fire Department and helped bring the emergency response units to Everett (EMT). He was a firm disciplinarian, but the most wonderfully kind person, who could be counted on to fix things and dedicate his time to his family and others. This is but one example of the special people in my life. Many of my past Valentines have passed from this life or are not in my life, but I have wonderful present Valentines and future Valentines.

So for today I am remembering the legacy of St. Valentine, who helped the poor and disenfranchised, and gave love and blessings to all he met. I can only strive to do the same each day.

Totally Diggin' Customizing My Own Paper

I just hooked up with Maura and Scott at Craftsassy.com, through Jeff at BWScrapbooking.com. I have been playing with printing out digital papers at Craft Sassy and using them for traditional scrapbooking. I think this is one of the most awesome and creative ideas I have heard about in the scrapbooking industry. I was able to scan some of Preston's art work and make 12 x 12 paper. I also scanned a doily that my great grandmother crocheted, and voile it is scrapbooking paper.

I am going to be doing some more LO and altered items with these papers! The reason why I like this is you can design your own unique papers. I can put fabric, relative's photos, kids artwork, etc on papers to use in my albums! It is really fun! And, when the truth be told, who really wouldn't like to design some awesome paper to use!

Let me know what you think!
